FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
Biostimulators are injectable treatments designed to stimulate your body’s natural collagen production. Common biostimulators include Sculptra® (poly-L-lactic acid) and Radiesse® (calcium hydroxylapatite). Rather than simply adding volume, they work over time to improve skin quality, firmness, and structure.
-
Biostimulators such as Sculptra and Radiesse, trigger your body’s natural regenerative response. Once injected, they stimulate collagen production in the treated areas, gradually restoring volume, improving skin texture, and enhancing overall facial support. Results develop progressively and appear more natural as collagen rebuilds.
-
Good candidates are adults experiencing volume loss, skin laxity, or thinning skin who want gradual, long-lasting, and natural-looking improvement. Biostimulators are ideal for patients seeking collagen restoration rather than immediate volume. Schedule a consultation to develop a treatment plan that is right for you.
-
Results from biostimulators are long-lasting. Sculptra® and Radiesse® can last up to 2 years or longer, depending on the product used, treatment area, and individual response. Because collagen is rebuilt, results tend to be more durable than traditional fillers.
-
Downtime is minimal. Mild swelling, redness, tenderness, or bruising may occur and usually resolves within a few days. Most patients return to normal activities the same day or the following day.
-
After treatment, you should avoid:
Strenuous exercise for 24 hours
Excessive heat (saunas, hot tubs, sun exposure) for 24–48 hours
Alcohol for 24 hours
For Sculptra®, you will be instructed to follow the 5-5-5 massage rule (massaging the treated area for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days).
-
To minimize bruising, avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements (such as aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, and vitamin E) for several days prior to treatment unless prescribed by your physician. Arrive with a clean face and follow any pre-treatment instructions provided during your consultation.
-
Yes! Sculptra and Radiesse treatments are most effective when you complete the entire prescribed dose. For example, if you are prescribed 4 vials for your treatment, you will want to book your appointments in advance so that you complete all 4 vials in a timely manner. This will ensure the most effective results. Each treatment consists of 1-2 vials, so you may need more than one session to complete your prescribed dose.
-
Sculptra and radiesse treatment cost depends on multiple factors including treatment area and age. You can speak with your provider to determine how many vials you will need for optimal results.
Sculptra/Radiesse: $900/vial
Package of 3 vials: $2500
Package of 4 vials: $3100
Package of 5 vials: $3900
-
Discomfort is typically minimal. Biostimulators are often mixed with lidocaine, and a topical numbing agent may be applied. Most patients describe the sensation as mild pressure rather than pain.
-
Yes, biostimulators are considered safe when administered by a trained and experienced medical professional. Sculptra® and Radiesse® are FDA-approved and have been used safely for many years. As with any injectable treatment, potential risks will be discussed during your consultation.
-
Your treatment begins with a consultation to evaluate your facial anatomy and goals. The product is then injected into targeted areas to stimulate collagen production. Treatments typically take 45-60 minutes. Results appear gradually over several weeks to months as collagen rebuilds, with optimal results often achieved through a series of treatments.
